{"id":4466,"date":"2025-02-26T23:13:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-26T23:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lanfrica.com\/blog\/?p=4466"},"modified":"2025-05-13T23:53:29","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T23:53:29","slug":"lanfrica-at-lt4all-2025-data-farming-and-the-naijavoices-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lanfrica.com\/blog\/lanfrica-at-lt4all-2025-data-farming-and-the-naijavoices-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Lanfrica at LT4ALL 2025: Data Farming and The NaijaVoices Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re proud to share that Prof. GMT Emezue, Lanfrica\u2019s Coordinator for Nigeria, was invited to speak at the 2nd International Conference on Language Technologies for All (LT4ALL 2025), held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, February 24th to 26th, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organized by the <strong>International Language Resources Association (ELRA)<\/strong> and its Special Interest Group on Under-resourced Languages (SIGUL) \u2014 a joint initiative with the <strong>International Speech Communication Association (ISCA)<\/strong> \u2014 and in partnership with <strong>UNESCO<\/strong>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lt4all2025.eu\/\"> the LT4ALL conference<\/a> is a global platform advocating for inclusive language technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This 2025 year\u2019s theme, <strong>&#8220;Advancing Humanism through Language Technologies,&#8221;<\/strong> reflects a strong commitment to empowering communities through ethical, localized, and inclusive language tech. LT4ALL 2025 also marks a special moment, being part of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022\u20132032) and celebrating the 25th anniversary of International Mother Language Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In her talk, titled <strong>\u201cData Farming and the QRUE Frameworks: The NaijaVoices Experience\u201d<\/strong> Prof. Emezue challenged the trend of applying AI ethics and quality frameworks (Quality, Reliability, Usability, and Ethics \u2013 QRUE) in a one-size-fits-all manner. Instead, she emphasized the need to ground these frameworks in <strong>local realities and cultural contexts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drawing insights from the <a href=\"https:\/\/naijavoices.com\/\"><strong>NaijaVoices<\/strong><\/a> project and her broader work in African language data curation, she introduced the concept of <strong>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/lanfrica.com\/blog\/data-farming-in-the-global-south\/\">Data Farming<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 a community-driven, sustainable approach to building language resources.
