The subject of the graduate qualification work is “A bioenergy power source project for a cattle farm”. The purpose of the work is to design and analyze bioenergy power source project for a cattle farm in Zimbabwe using biogas generated from cow manure. The farm has 400 cows, producing a capacity of 500 m3 biomass daily and approximately 1050 kWh/day of electricity. The work was fulfilled by selecting and sizing the major biogas plant components, including the anaerobic digester, gas purification system, compression and storage units, generator set, and electrical distribution network. The economic analysis of the proposed project was done and the results suggested that the proposed project was feasible. The research work concludes that the bioenergy power source is a sustainable solution for rural electrification in Zimbabwe.
