A First Look at Copulae in Gorwaa

This talk presents an initial analysis of copulae in Gorwaa. Based primarily on data collected through the SnNCop Fieldwork Questionnaire on Copular Clauses and Nonverbal Predication, we examine nominal, locational, and adjectival copula constructions. Comment is made on the copula's formal and distributional similarity to the auxiliary at the core of the preverbal clitic complexes present in almost all verbal clauses. Typological observations are made in the conclusion.

Note: This talk has not gone through a process of peer review, and findings should therefore be treated as preliminary and subject to change.
