Uncontrolled hypertension is the leading risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. In Uganda, such diseases account for approximately 10% of all deaths, with 1 in 5 adults having hypertension (> 90% of hypertensive cases are uncontrolled). Although basic healthcare in the country is available free of cost at government facilities, accessing regular medications to control hypertension is a major challenge due to supply chain issues that hinder availability. As a result, patients frequently suspend treatment, or buy medication individually at private facilities or pharmacies (incurring significant costs). This study aims to compare two mobile-wallet facilitated schemes - direct payment to the health facility vs a savings account - for medication availability.
