Afrofuturism is a contemporary cultural movement that explores African identity through futuristic lenses, often addressing issues of race and technology in literature, art, and media. The study employs a mixed-methods approach involving qualitative interviews with 30 Kenyan youth leaders and quantitative surveys among 500 urban residents to analyse their attitudes towards Afrofuturism. Findings indicate that respondents associate Afrofuturism with optimism about technological progress, but also express concerns over potential social inequalities exacerbated by rapid change. The study reveals a nuanced understanding of Afrofuturism among Kenyans, highlighting both its aspirational and critical aspects in shaping visions for the future. Policy makers are encouraged to consider the diverse implications of Afrofuturism when designing interventions that aim to harness technological advancements without exacerbating social divides.
