This paper explores Algeria’s efforts to enhance suspicious financial transaction reporting and analysis mechanisms in combating money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/CFT). The study aims to assess Algeria’s progress in adapting its legal and institutional framework to meet Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations and strengthening its Financial Intelligence Unit. Our research reveals that Algeria has made considerable progress in this area. However, challenges remain in achieving full compliance with FATF recommendations. We expect to identify specific areas where Algeria can improve its reporting and analysis mechanisms. By examining Algeria’s journey, this paper provides insights into the complexities of implementing effective AML/CFT measures in developing economies. The findings may help policymakers and practitioners in similar contexts refine their approaches to financial crime prevention.
