This retrospective cross-sectional study, conducted at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, investigated the prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of microbial clinical isolates in 100 diabetic patients. The findings revealed that Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella species, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were among the most frequently isolated pathogens. The study highlighted significant variability in antibiotic susceptibility among these isolates, underscoring the importance of localized surveillance and targeted antimicrobial therapy to effectively manage infections and reduce complications in diabetic patients. These results contribute to addressing the existing knowledge gap in the region and support evidence-based clinical decision-making.
