The recording at the center of this item is a song. Kwongo Daak was elected as Shilluk King in 1992. Before the installation, he rebuilt the former kings’ shrines as required by the Shilluk norms. Then he went to Pachodo by boat. There is no river port in Pachodo. So the boat must proceed to Kodok and then he takes a care from Kodok to Pachodo. The composer appreciates the new king and is happy because he has done what was necessary in regard to all the shrines. And he wishes that the new king would rule for forty years, like King Yor Nyakwacci. He is also expecting his time to be hunger free as it was during the reign of his fathers. In the end he says that the educated King will protect the Shilluk Land. This item consists of a recorded Shilluk narrative (wav file), accompanied with annotation (in Praat TextGrid) and associated information: metadata, permissions and speaker questionnaire. The associated information is also summarized, in a spreadsheet. The TextGrid annotation includes Shilluk orthography, translation, and comments.
