This is a pre- and post- intervention study to promote antimicrobial stewardship amongst pharmacists and medicine vendors in Nigeria. Due to the huge burden of AMR-related morbidity and mortality in this country, we will use broader and cohesive engagement and methodologies, to introduce and test an intervention aimed at combating AMR and improve antimicrobial stewardship, specifically targeting the widespread practice of over-the-counter antibiotic dispensing. By equipping providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote appropriate antibiotic use, the intervention will contribute to a broader effort to combat AMR. This will include educating pharmacists and medicine vendors about the appropriate use of antibiotics, the dangers of misuse, and the importance of antibiotic stewardship. Furthermore, the intervention will provide pharmacists with new methods and tools to combat AMR and improve antimicrobial use. By empowering pharmacists with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources, we aim to create a more cohesive and engaged community of healthcare professionals committed to combating AMR and improving patient outcomes.
