Artificial Intelligence and Sexuality Education

Artificial intelligence has the capacity to address the disparities and gaps in sexual education. AI has the potential to provide tailored and age-appropriate sexuality education to the underserved communities in Africa. However, without proper framework, the same sexuality inequality the AI is aiming to fill will persist. That is what I proposed a framework with five principles that can guide AI in sexuality education in African context. These principles include cultural humility over cultural competence, epistemic justice and multiple knowledge systems, learner agency and critical Digital literacy, privacy as empowerment and not surveillance and lastly sustainable localization through capacity building. These principles will position AI in Africa not as techno-solutionism or a silver bullet for complex educational challenges. It will position Africa as co-creators and co-designer of our AI architecture especially sexual health knowledge and the sources of their knowledge, context-specific and cultural relevant rather than presenting information as universal and decontextualized. However, it requires ongoing dialogue among stakeholders, sustainable investment in research and capacity building, and critical implementation and enforcement policies.
