Assessment of Learner Support Services at the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Nigeria

The National Teachers' Institute (NTI) in Aba Urban experience limitations and gaps in the provision and extent of media support services, resulting in inadequate access to educational resources and instructional materials for distance learners. Hence, the study assessed learner support services at the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) in Aba Urban. The study adopted Non-experimental design of survey descriptive research type. The population of the study comprised 1754 learners of NTI in Aba urban. A multistage sampling procedure was used to sample 350 learners. Assessment of Learner Support Services in National Teachers’ Institute (ALSSNTI) was used to collect data for the study. The instrument was validated by three experts. Reliability coefficients of 0.81 was calculated through Cronbach alpha method. Data collected were analyzed using percentages to analyze research questions one and two. Findings revealed that the extent of media support services in the National Teachers Institute Aba Urban is low. Also, findings showed that the extent of counselling support services in the National Teachers’ Institute Aba urban is low. Hence, it was concluded that the extent of media and counselling support services in NTI Aba Urban is low. Based on these findings some recommendations were made among which are that the managers of NTI Aba Urban should invest in upgrading media resources such as audiovisual materials, online learning platforms, and interactive multimedia content; and provide training for educators on how to effectively integrate them in instruction.
