This study determined the level of awareness of Moringa oleifera root, leaf, and seed among residents of Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State and analyzed its nutritional and functional properties. The research adopted a mixed-method approach, utilizing a descriptive survey design involving 180 respondents (men, market women, and youths) and a laboratory analysis (quasi-experimental design) for the plant samples. The survey results showed a generally high level of awareness regarding the nutritional value of Moringa leaves, though significantly lower awareness was observed among the youth demographic (15-20 years) compared to older adults (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a significant difference was found based on gender, with females demonstrating higher awareness of the nutritional value of leaves (p = 0.014).Proximate analysis of the dried leaf, seed and root extract revealed a protein content of 27.61%, carbohydrate (47.09%), and crude fibre (10.11%). Mineral analysis indicated the leaves were rich in calcium (641.2mg/100g), Potassium (261.1mg/100g), and Magnesium (186.15mg/100g). Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, phenolics, saponins and flavonoids. The study concluded that Moringa oleifera is a potent tool for addressing malnutrition, terminal ailments and recommended for increased public awareness, particularly targeting the younger population, and the integration of Moringa products into national nutrition programs by the government and Nutrition Society of Nigeria.
