<b>Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Data Management in Digitisation Projects</b> (Presentation for the 7th DIRISA Annual National Research Data Workshop, Pretoria, South Africa, 3 July 2025)

This presentation, delivered by Niklas Zimmer at the 7th DIRISA Annual National Research Data Workshop (Pretoria, South Africa, 3 July 2025), offers a practical and strategic exploration of how artificial intelligence is reshaping digitisation workflows in archives, libraries, and research data services.

Drawing on case studies, tools, and global innovations, the talk demonstrates 11 functional areas where AI can augment the stewardship of analogue heritage materials—from metadata extraction and OCR, to multilingual translation, creative reuse, and workflow automation.

The presentation also addresses critical considerations around ethics, privacy, data sovereignty, and infrastructure readiness in the African context.
