This research examines the effect of financial integration on renewable energy production in 15 West African countries over the period 2000-2023. It uses a spatial econometric approach based on Spatial Autoregressive (SAR) models. The results show that financial integration has a positive effect on renewable energy production. A decomposition of the effect of financial integration revealed that it has a direct positive effect in the local country, an indirect positive effect in neighboring countries, and a total positive effect on all countries in terms of renewable energy production in West Africa. These results suggest that policymakers in West Africa should harmonize financial policies and banking regulations. They also suggest the development of financial products tailored to renewable energy projects.
