Bayesian Hierarchical Model Assessment in Rwanda's District Hospitals Systems: A Methodological Review

The healthcare sector in Rwanda faces challenges related to efficiency and resource allocation among district hospitals. A comprehensive literature review will be conducted to evaluate existing studies that employ Bayesian hierarchical models for measuring efficiency in Rwanda's health sector. This includes an examination of model specification, data integration strategies, and methodological advancements. Bayesian hierarchical models have shown promise in capturing heterogeneity across districts while accounting for varying levels of precision in the estimation process. The review highlights the robustness of Bayesian hierarchical models in providing nuanced insights into district hospital performance, particularly in terms of efficiency gains and resource allocation effectiveness. Future research should consider expanding model application to include additional variables or different data sources to further validate findings across various contexts. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
