Bridging the Gap between Bakiga Heritage Conservation and the Promotion of Community-Based Tourism, Kabale District, Uganda

This research aims to examine the relationship between the preservation of Bakiga cultural heritage and the promotion of community-based tourism in Kabale District, Uganda, using a qualitative PAR approach. There are abundant cultural heritage resources in the district; however, there is a mismatch between these resources and their practical use in promoting sustainable CBT. The objectives of the study: (1) to record the significance of cultural elements of the Bakiga cultural heritage to community members for preservation and tourism promotion in Kabale District; (2) to investigate how effective the community-based tourism (CBT) is as a participative approach to a peer‘s heritage preservation and simultaneously to produce a sustainable socio-economic outcome for a community; and (3) work with community stakeholders to craft strategies to enhance the intersection of Bakiga cultural heritage preservation and community-based tourism promotion.
