The dramatic increase in prevalence and clinical impact of infections caused by carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) are major and ongoing public health problems globally. The carbapenemase groups most commonly encountered include
Klebsiella pneumoniae
carbapenemase (KPC), New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM), and OXA-48, with OXA-48 thought to be endemic to North Africa. These enzymes are frequently found on mobile genetic elements and have the potential to be widespread over the world, while the situation in Algeria is not well documented. In this article, we provide an in-depth review of CPE in Algeria, providing up-to-date information on the subject.
