Chronic Pain in South African Adults: A Scoping Review

In this scoping review, we aim to assess the state of knowledge of chronic pain in South Africa and map the existing research in terms of studies describing: • Chronic pain, its characteristics, and its prevalence • Disability and burden (including financial) related to chronic pain • Co-morbidities to chronic pain in South African populations • Chronic pain patient care-seeking behaviour and barriers to care • Chronic pain treatments received and patient satisfaction with treatment
