International audience The administrative and economic development of Algiers and its surroundings resulted, among other things, in a considerable increase of its population originating from the city itself or from neighbouring or more distant regions. From a linguistinc standpoint, the present situation is characterized by the diversity of the languages spoken there (Arabic, Berber, French) and that of their respective varieties. The aim of this study is to offer a sketch of the phonological varieties of Algiers Arabic and to account for their dynamics as far as it is accessible.
