The data contained in this deposit are in the form of workshop summary data collected in Malawi in February-March 2024. Three workshops were held: (1) Challenges to Routine Environmental Water Monitoring (20th Feb 2024), (2) Defining contextual factors and exploring potential solutions to challenges (1st March 2024) and, (3) Review of ‘water monitoring scenarios’ (12th March). Workshop purpose: This workshop series focussed on the operation of Malawi’s groundwater monitoring network. The groundwater monitoring network was selected due to the importance of groundwater to Malawi’s population, industry and economy and to Malawi’s wider sustainable development. Data collection: The data contained in the deposit is in the form of workshop summaries. These summary documents capture the qualitative notes and comments made by workshop participants during discussions, as captured as part of a world-café style interactive workshop. They also contain notes and reflections from rapporteurs facilitating the workshops. Data confidentiality: in accordance with ethical guidance for this research project, all identifiable information has been removed from the data for presentation in the summary form. Data ownership: this data is owned by the University of Strathclyde.
