We conducted passive acoustic surveys for galagos (Family: Galagidae) in
38 cocoa agroforests in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, and we trained a
YOLOv5 convolutional neural network model using a dataset of galago
vocalisations from across sub-Saharan Africa to enable automatic detection
of galago calls. Despite a high rate of false-positive detections, our
galago detector model confirmed the presence of at least one species of
western dwarf galago (Galagoides) in four cocoa agroforests, each situated
> 4 km from the nearest forest reserve. These represent the first
scientific records of galagos in cocoa agroforestry systems, although
local ecological knowledge likely predates these
observations. This dataset consists of the one-minute long audio
files containing the detected calls of galagos in four seperate cocoa

Description of the data and file structure Passive acoustic surveys for
galagos were conducted in 38 cocoa agroforests in the Ashanti Region of
Ghana using Audiomoth devices. Each device was deployed for approximately
two weeks and set to record for the period 18:00 – 05:00 at a 384 kHz
sampling rate with mid-gain settings. After, we trained a YOLOv5
convolutional neural network model using a dataset of galago vocalisations
from across sub-Saharan Africa to enable automatic detection of galago
calls. This galago detector was then used to scan through all of our
acoustic data for instances of galago vocalisations. ### Files and

60-second long .wav files. They contain the galago vocalisations from the
four farms upon which we were able to confirm the presence of galagos.
File names contain the date of recording (e.g., 20241104), the time of the
recording (e.g., 214000), and the time interval within the file at which
the galago vocalisation can be heard (eg., 25 s). ## Code/software Any
software capable of playing back .wav audio files can be used to listen to
the recordings.
