This webinar is part of the Digital Earth Africa Webinar Series, showcasing real-world applications of the platform across diverse sectors. Co-organised with the GEO Knowledge Hub, this session focused on Urbanization and was held on 24 April 2025. The session was moderated by Felipe Carlos and featured two key speakers: Felipe Carlos opened with an overview of the GEO Knowledge Hub and how to access materials from the previous webinars. Kenneth Mubea, Capacity Development Lead at Digital Earth Africa, presented practical applications of the platform related to Urbanization. He demonstrated the use of satellite data and Digital Earth Africa tools for monitoring urban growth, detecting urban change, comparing urbanization indices in cities like Johannesburg (South Africa) and Nairobi (Kenya), and mapping urban tree extent using datasets from the OECD Sahel and West Africa Club. Kenneth also provided guidance for new users on how to access resources and get started with the platform.
