This report presents the findings of a user experience (UX) study on Digital Story Time (DST), eKitabu's Kenyan Sign Language video storybook program for Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners. The study was commissioned by eKitabu and inABLE.org and carried out by FoVET Research & Consultancy in March 2025. It involved 174 participants in total: 51 took part in focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and one-on-one sessions at two Schools for the Deaf, while a further 123 learners and parents from 13 other schools completed perception surveys. Overall, DST received very positive feedback, with 94–100% of learners reporting happy or excited reactions and an average satisfaction score of 4.8 out of 5. However, each delivery platform has its own challenges: classrooms face device shortages, YouTube is hard to navigate and depends on unreliable internet, and television broadcasts are limited by fixed schedules. The report also finds that DST is now being used by a wider range of people than originally intended, including older learners and hearing family members. It ends with recommendations for improving each platform.
