Traditional Birth Attendants play a vital role in maternal and postnatal care in rural South Africa, where practices are rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems. This chapter examines postnatal care practices in Lekung Village, including Botsetse, the use of medicinal plants, and culturally grounded healing techniques. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach, the chapter documents Indigenous maternal knowledge and explores challenges related to marginalization and knowledge loss. It highlights the importance of preserving and organizing this knowledge to support culturally responsive maternal healthcare. The chapter contributes to efforts aimed at recognizing and revitalizing Indigenous maternal health practices within contemporary healthcare frameworks.
