Drug use and HIV in West Africa: a neglected epidemic

Summary Injecting drug use is poorly documented in West Africa. HIV prevalence studies are still rare. Recent studies show that drug injection is on the rise. There is an urgent need to take this component of the HIV epidemic into account and to establish adapted intervention strategies.
