DSWB Open Science and Capacity Building Working Group external webinar on CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance and Sovereignty.
In this session, Dr Sven Ouzman expands on the key concepts explored in the webinar: “CARE,” “Indigenous,” and “Data.” Drawing on a range of case studies, he explores some of the issues surrounding Indigenous data, highlighting examples of both the uses and abuses of data within the African context from an archaeological perspective.
The session also examines recent cases of cultural data loss reparations, considers suggestions for decoloniality and a “Third Way,” and discusses potential paths forward for more equitable data governance.
