This toolkit brings together the educational materials and the survey instrument developed in the EDUROL-2 project (BMBF/BMFTR, FKZ 01KA2404B) at the University of Münster, in collaboration with medical partners from Germany (TU Dresden, Klinikum Weimar) and partners in Malawi. It addresses a persistent gap in the control of urogenital schistosomiasis: diagnostic services only reduce mortality if people recognise blood in the urine as a reason to seek care.

The set contains three components. A 24-page train-the-trainer booklet, Explaining Schistosomiasis, prepares medical staff to deliver education and counselling within routine clinical contacts. A patient education flyer, available in English and Chichewa, conveys transmission, symptoms and treatment pathways in accessible language. A bilingual survey instrument based on the Prototype-Willingness Model assesses attitudes, risk images, social norms, behavioural intention and willingness, alongside exposure behaviour and socioeconomic characteristics; it is designed for interview administration with participants of varying literacy levels.

Materials were developed co-constructively with Malawian partners and piloted at three district hospitals in Malawi.
