Enteric viruses in children hospitalised with acute gastroenteritis, Assiut, Upper Egypt (2021–2022): de-identified dataset and analysis code

De-identified participant-level data for 100 consecutive children aged 1–60 months admitted with acute watery gastroenteritis to Assiut University Children's Hospital, the principal tertiary paediatric referral centre for Upper Egypt, over twelve consecutive months (1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022). One stool specimen per child was tested by PCR for Rotavirus A, human adenovirus, norovirus GI, norovirus GII and astrovirus. The deposit contains the primary CSV, a convenience spreadsheet, the complete data-cleaning log, a full data dictionary, derived-variable definitions, a documented list of known data-quality issues, and Python code that regenerates every statistic in the associated manuscript from the deposited CSV alone. Important: norovirus and astrovirus were not detected in any specimen. This is treated as an assay-performance signal, not as evidence of absence, and must not be used as a prevalence estimate. See docs/known_issues.md. Ethics: approved by the Institutional Review Board and Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University, approval number 14-9-2021-17101532. Written informed consent was obtained from a parent or legal guardian of every participant. Data and documentation are released under CC BY 4.0; the code under the MIT Licence.
