
This article explores the various techniques and tools used for environmental management in the Sahelian zone of Cameroon, with a particular focus on sustainable practices that can be implemented to combat the impacts of climate change. The Sahelian zone of Cameroon, characterized by low rainfall and often degraded soils, faces significant environmental challenges, including desertification, soil erosion and reduced biodiversity. Terrace farming is a widely adopted technique in mountainous areas, but its adoption in the region is moderate (46%) while the use of biological insecticides remains relatively low (35%). Organic composting is relatively popular, with a regional average of 58% adoption. Rainwater harvesting is a widely adopted technique in the Far North of Cameroon, with a regional average of 74.8% while traditional irrigation, which often relies on manual canal systems or wells, remains used by 33.3% of farmers. Local communities initiate an average of 13.5 environmental projects per year while the involvement of women is still limited, with an average of 41.7%. The main obstacle to the adoption of sustainable practices is the lack of funding, with a regional average of 68.3%.
