Urban sanitation remains a major challenge for municipalities in the city of Kinshasa due to rapid population growth, inadequate infrastructure and environmental management constraints. This study assessed the influence of monitoring systems on the performance of sanitation brigades in Lemba Municipality. Data were collected from 250 respondents, including beneficiary households (57.6%), sanitation brigade members (30.0%) and municipal authorities (12.4%), using questionnaires, interviews and direct observations. Data analysis combined descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, Cramer's V coefficient, and the construction of the Global Adaptation Index (GAI) and the Global Efficiency Index (GEI). The findings revealed a statistically significant relationship between monitoring systems and sanitation brigade performance (p < 0.05). The GAI reached 56.2%, indicating a moderate level of adaptation to operational constraints, whereas the GEI was 35.9%, reflecting limited effectiveness of the monitoring system. The study highlights the need to strengthen monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, logistical resources and institutional coordination in order to sustainably improve sanitation performance in Lemba Municipality.
