Flooding has become a yearly major global environmental issue. Niger State has witness severe negative impact in recent time, due to poor awareness and inadequate community preparedness toward the problem. It is on this basis that this study examines Social Studies education effectiveness in promoting community awareness on flood disasters in Niger State, in relation to sustainable development goal, Nigeria. The study uses secondary data. The information gathered were analysed using both content and thematic analysis. Findings showed that Social Studies, as a multidisciplinary subject, can significantly enhance critical awareness, support disaster risk reduction strategies, and promote civic responsibility of reducing floods in communities. Four research questions guided the investigation. However, gaps were identified in curriculum content related to disaster education and management. The study concluded that a well-designed and effectively implemented Social Studies curriculum that is practical with locally relevant environmental issues can help build resilient communities against flood through awareness campaign. The research recommended that practical community-inclusive base approaches should be introduced into the curriculum content of social studies to solve the immediate environmental issues.
