This research explored the reasons why pregnant women in Kampala, Uganda, do not access antenatal care. It is a quantitative cross-sectional study in a large hospital with women who were in hospital following the birth of their babies. The research targeted women who had accessed antenatal care on one or two occasions, then only returned to the hospital to give birth. The findings showed that the main reasons that women do not attend for antenatal are due to the distance travelled for accessing care, financial constraints, long waiting times, midwives’ attitude and lack of knowledge.
