This scoping review examines the factors influencing the adoption of digital technologies by small-scale farmers in Africa. Although digital innovations hold immense potential to enhance productivity, efficiency, and resilience in agriculture, their uptake across the continent remains limited. The review, guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), systematically maps evidence from 2000 to 2025 on technological, socio-economic, institutional, and environmental determinants of adoption. It also identifies key facilitators such as access to digital infrastructure, literacy, affordability, and supportive policy environments. The findings aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of existing barriers and enablers, offering insights to researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners seeking to promote inclusive and sustainable digital transformation in African agriculture.
