Factors Associated with Operationally Defined Caesarean Section Acceptance among Pregnant Women in Bosaso, Somalia: Dataset and Supporting Materials

This repository contains the de-identified dataset and supporting materials for the study “Factors Associated with Operationally Defined Caesarean Section Acceptance among Pregnant Women in Bosaso, Somalia: A Secondary Analysis.” The underlying facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted at Bosaso General Hospital, Bosaso, Puntland, Somalia, between 1 January and 15 March 2026, among 384 pregnant women older than 18 years.

The repository includes the de-identified dataset in CSV and Stata formats, a data dictionary/codebook, the study questionnaire, SPSS syntax, Stata analysis do-file, README documentation, and the completed STROBE checklist. The dataset supports analysis of factors associated with an operationally defined caesarean section acceptance outcome. Acceptance was derived from agreement with the statement that, in certain medical situations, caesarean section may be preferred over vaginal delivery.

Nine knowledge items (Q7–Q15) were excluded from regression analysis because all nine showed an identical within-respondent response pattern across the dataset. Two records contained identical responses across all 28 questionnaire items and were retained because the available de-identified data could not establish whether they represented duplicate entries or distinct respondents.

Ethical approval was granted under permit number CU-CIARI 2026-039. Verbal informed consent was obtained from all participants, and anonymity and confidentiality were maintained throughout the study.
