All research data should be FAIR and as open as possible. However, qualitative research data (including interviews, photographs and videos) often contains personal information and is regulated by privacy legislation. Is FAIR compatible with GDPR? And could both FAIR and GDPR stand in the way for high-quality qualitative research? In this session, support staff and researchers will discuss the challenges when sharing qualitative research in a FAIR and legal way. Speakers Kristian Sandbekk Norsted, Senior Adviser, Østfold University College Library Kristian Sandbekk Norsted coordinates Østfold University College’s work with open science. He holds a PhD in cultural anthropology from Uppsala University and has formal training in privacy and GDPR. Jan Ketil Simonsen, Professor, Norwegian University of Science and Technology  Jan Ketil Simonsen is a professor of social anthropology at NTNU. His has extensive experience from field research in Zambia, focusing on rural-urban migration, kinship, and ritual. He is a past member of a national board on ethics in ethnographic field research in relation to GDPR.
