The data set underpins the research titled; “Federal State Policy and Livestock Production: A Case of Akobo County, Jonglei State, South Sudan.” The study explored how the structures of federal-state governance affected livestock production and the livelihoods of people in Akobo County. The research utilized a cross-sectional quantitative approach and gathered data through face-to-face administration of structured questionnaires to 324 adults engaged in livestock production, crop farming, trade, employment and local governance. The data set consists of anonymized individual-level data on demographics, subsistence agriculture, government assistance provided to local farmers, policies and services relating to livestock production, veterinary programs, cattle rustling and security, marketing linkages, business/trade services, and resource tenure governance. There is also data on gender, age group, marital status, level of education, family size, occupation and number of years in occupation. No names, phone numbers, email addresses or any other personal identification numbers have been included. The data may be useful for research in areas such as federal governance, service provision, pastoralist livelihoods, livestock production, markets, and resource tenure governance.
