Food Future Dreaming Archive

This archive of music and sounds is related to food and farming traditions in Bomet and Baringo counties, Kenya. The archive is linked to the Food Future Dreaming EP (also listed on the repository), which synthesises and musically elaborates selections from this archive to form original compositions and arrangements.The archive showcases selected musical heritage and environmental sounds connected to food and farming co-curated with musicians and farmers in Bomet County and Baringo County, Kenya, 13 - 15 June 2025. The sounds include Tugen (Baringo) and Kipsigis (Bomet) songs exploring aspects of cultivating and consuming indigenous and traditional crops, such as millet, sorghum and vine spinach. These crops once enjoyed a central place in diets across Kenya but were systematically marginalised during British colonial occupation (c.1895 - 1963).
