Германский Тоголенд: возникновение и развитие колонии German Togoland: the Emergence and Development of the Colony

Колониальная политика Германии XIX–XX вв. представляет большой исторический интерес, не только как часть общей колониальной практики европейских держав, но и как фактор, повлиявший на становление колониальных обществ Африки, которые в дальнейшем трансформировались в независимые государства. Несмотря на кратковременность колониальной экспансии Германии, начавшейся в 70-е гг. XIX и оборвавшейся после Первой мировой войны, данная деятельность несла в себе трансформирующее влияние на те регионы, в которых реализовывалась. Она была сопряжена с созданием сельскохозяйственных и промышленных предприятий, формированием логистических систем, как на территории колоний, так и между колониями и метрополией, развитием почтовой и радиокоммуникаций. Кроме того, большое внимание колонизаторы уделяли формированию системы управленческих институтов, опиравшихся на институты традиционной власти коренного населения колоний. В данной связи, колония Германский Тоголенд и ее история являются крайне показательными, т.к. данная колония в очень короткие сроки приобрела статус «образцовой», что означало ее типичность в рамках колониальной политики метрополии и соответствие всем основным требованиям, предъявляемым Германией к колониальной деятельности. Также, пример Тоголенда представляет интерес и с точки зрения трансформационного влияния, выраженного, в том числе, в работе с местным населением и развитием образовательных практик, соответствующим интересам германской колонизации. Особое внимание обращает на себя вопрос христианизации, реализуемый параллельно с колонизацией и связанный с деятельностью Бременской миссией. Значение данной деятельности раскрывается не только через приобщение коренного населения к протестантизму, но и через создание школ и письменного языка эве, общего для множества разрозненных племенных групп данного сообщества. The colonial policy of Germany in the 19th-20th centuries is of great historical interest, not only as part of the general colonial practice of European powers, but also as a factor that influenced the formation of colonial societies in Africa, which later transformed into independent states. Despite the short-term nature of Germany’s colonial expansion, which began in the 1870s and ended after World War I, this activity had a transformative effect on the regions in which it was implemented. It was associated with the creation of agricultural and industrial enterprises, the formation of logistics systems both on the territory of the colonies and between the colonies and the metropolis, the development of postal and radio communications. In addition, the colonizers paid much attention to the formation of a system of administrative institutions based on the institutions of traditional power of the indigenous population of the colonies. In this regard, the colony of German Togoland and its history are extremely indicative, since this colony in a very short time acquired the status of “model”, which meant its typicality within the framework of the colonial policy of the metropolis and compliance with all the basic requirements imposed by Germany on colonial activity. Also, the example of Togoland is of interest from the point of view of the transformational influence, expressed, among other things, in work with the local population and the development of educational practices corresponding to the interests of German colonization. Particular attention is drawn to the issue of Christianization, implemented in parallel with colonization and associated with the activities of the Bremen mission. The significance of this activity is revealed not only through the introduction of the indigenous population to Protestantism, but also through the creation of schools and the written language of Ewe, common to many disparate tribal groups of this community.
