MVP Build ## Product vision Ethiopian businesses deserve a modern, locally attuned enterprise platform that helps them operate with the same polish and efficiency as any global brand. The goal of this project is to deliver an offline-capable, extensible ERP that makes day-to-day retail and back-office processes seamless—from point-of-sale operations and inventory control to HR, finance, and compliance. The intention is to make the platform so valuable that adopting it becomes a strategic advantage for every merchant, wholesaler, or service provider operating in the country. To reach that bar, upcoming work focuses on: - Deep localisation for Ethiopian tax, receipt, and fiscal requirements. - Rich analytics that surface actionable insights about customers, sales performance, and cash flow. - Robust multi-branch and franchise support so operators can scale without operational drag. - Developer-friendly extension points that make partner integrations (mobile money, e-commerce, logistics, accounting) straightforward. The `docs/product_vision.md` file expands on the roadmap, guiding principles, and success metrics that inform day-to-day decisions. ## Developer quick start This project contains a Node/Express backend and a Vite + React + TypeScript frontend. Below are quick steps to get a development environment running on Windows (PowerShell). Adjust ports and env values as needed. Prerequisites - Node.js (18+ recommended) - npm - Docker (for Postgres in development) 1) Copy env example for backend ```powershell cd backend cp .env.example .env # Edit backend/.env as needed ``` 2) Start Postgres via Docker Compose (from repo root) ```powershell # Start DB in detached mode docker compose up -d ``` By default the Docker service exposes Postgres on host port 5433 (mapped to container 5432).
