## Overview
This repository contains an anonymized baseline dataset from Aquaya's Economics of Rural Water Supply study in Ghana.
The study examines the financial and operational performance of publicly managed rural piped water systems and explores approaches for improving service delivery through performance benchmarking and performance-based funding mechanisms.
The baseline dataset includes annual financial, operational, and service delivery indicators for 39 publicly managed rural water systems in Ghana for calendar year 2023. To protect confidentiality, all system identifiers and management-type labels have been removed.

This Excel workbook contains:
1. README worksheet – detailed descriptions of variables, indicators, units, calculations, and data limitations.
2. Anonymized baseline dataset – water system-level baseline data used in the study.
## Data Collection
Data were collected in 2024 through field visits, record reviews, and interviews with water system personnel. The indicators contained in this dataset reflect system performance during calendar year 2023.
Information was compiled from administrative, financial, operational, and technical records maintained by participating water systems.
Following data collection, Aquaya conducted extensive data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance procedures prior to anonymization and public release.
## Anonymization
To protect participating systems:
-Water system names and GPS coordinates have been removed.
-Management-type identifiers have been removed.
-Other potentially identifying information has been excluded where appropriate.
The dataset is intended to support research, learning, and sector-wide understanding of rural water service delivery and utility performance.
