# African-Gig-Economy-and-Digital-Wallet-Risk-Analysis ### August 2026 DataDNA Challenge | Top 5 Best Runner-Up #### Project Overview This project analyzes digital wallet transactions across four African markets to understand fraud exposure, disputes, reversals, transaction behaviour, and risk patterns across different customer and transaction attributes. #### Objective The analysis aimed to answer: * Where and when does fraud occur? * Which channels, transaction types and gig segments show higher risk? * How do KYC levels and other dimensions interact with fraud outcomes? * What actions could help reduce fraud exposure? #### Tools Python Pandas SQL Power BI DAX #### Key Findings * 50.29% of 50,000 transactions were flagged as fraudulent. * Total fraud loss was approximately $12.56M. * Ghana recorded the highest market fraud rate at 50.68%. * USSD had the highest channel fraud rate at 51.19%. * KYC tiers showed relatively similar fraud rates, suggesting that KYC alone does not explain fraud risk. * Airtime Top-Up had the highest fraud rate at 51.72%. * Wallet Funding via Card generated the highest fraud loss at approximately $1.01M. * Month-end Cash-Out transactions showed a higher reversal rate of 59.09%. #### Recommendations * Improve fraud monitoring using multiple risk factors. * Focus on high-risk market and channel combinations. * Apply transaction-specific fraud controls. * Increase monitoring around month-end Cash-Out activity. * Combine KYC information with transaction behaviour and other risk indicators. #### Recognition 🏆 Top 5 Best Runner-Up — August 2026 DataDNA Challenge --------------------------------------------------------- Recognition: Best at connecting the insights to recommendations.
