The analysis highlights spatial patterns of land cover and emphasizes rapid urban expansion, environmental change, and land transformation across the state. The output map provides valuable insights for urban planning, environmental monitoring, and sustainable land management. ## Study Area Lagos State is one of the fastest-growing urban regions in Africa, characterized by: ## Data Source Satellite imagery and geospatial datasets were obtained from: Esri Living Atlas Additional base layers and spatial references were processed within GIS environment ## Tools & Technologies Used QGIS – Data processing, classification, and map generation Esri Living Atlas – Satellite imagery and land cover data ### GIS Techniques: 1.Raster classification 2.Layer styling & symbology 3.Spatial analysis Map layout design ## Methodology Data Acquisition Extracted satellite imagery from Living Atlas Preprocessing Layer projection and clipping to study boundary Data cleaning and preparation Classification Categorized land into major LULC classes Applied color-coded symbology ## Map Highlights - Dominant red areas indicate extensive urban expansion and built-up zones. - Large blue water bodies represent the iconic Lagos Lagoon and associated water systems. - Significant vegetation and wetland cover still present in the eastern and western parts of the state. - Scattered agricultural patches visible in transitional zones.
