# COVID-19 East Africa Analysis A comprehensive data analysis and visualization project focused on the COVID-19 pandemic in East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia) with global comparisons. This project explores trends in cases, deaths, testing, and vaccination rates using the Our World in Data (OWID) dataset. ## Project Objectives - Analyze COVID-19 prevalence in East Africa compared to global trends. - Visualize monthly and cumulative trends in new cases, deaths, and vaccinations. - Examine vaccination progress relative to population per country. - Present insights using a combination of static and interactive charts. - Reflect on public health trends and data reliability throughout the pandemic. ## Tools and Libraries Used - Python 3.10 - pandas - numpy - matplotlib - seaborn - plotly - datetime - os ## How to Run/View the Project 1. Clone the repository: ```bash git clone github.com ``` 2. Open Jupyter Notebook: ```bash cd covid19-east-africa-analysis jupyter notebook ``` 3. Run the `covid_analysis.ipynb` notebook step by step. 4. Ensure the dataset `owid-covid-data.csv` is present in the root folder. You can download it from: ourworldindata.org ## Key Insights - COVID-19 spread varied among East African nations, with Kenya and Ethiopia reporting higher confirmed case counts. - Monthly trend plots revealed major spikes in mid-2021, corresponding with global Delta variant waves. - Total death counts remained relatively low in East Africa compared to global hotspots, but this may reflect underreporting or limited testing. - Cumulative vaccinations over time show consistent growth in Kenya and Ethiopia, while Uganda and Tanzania had slower uptake. - In the latest snapshot, Ethiopia leads in East Africa with a vaccination rate of around 31.43%, followed by Kenya at 30.57%, Uganda at 25.41%, and Tanzania at 20.00%. - Global prevalence visualized using …
