Built for Mediterranean and North-African cropping systems, with a database of twelve regional crops, nine soil textures, and twelve Moroccan agricultural-region presets. **Live demo:** open `index.html` — no build step, no dependencies, works offline after first load. --- ## Why this exists Morocco, like most of the southern Mediterranean, is entering a structural water deficit. Agriculture accounts for roughly **80 %** of the country's freshwater withdrawals, and the combination of prolonged drought, falling dam-fill ratios, and over-exploited aquifers is making *how* we irrigate the central engineering question of the decade. The FAO-56 framework (Allen et al., 1998) is the international reference for quantifying crop water requirements. Its equations are well-understood, extensively validated, and embedded in every serious irrigation advisory service — but they are rarely exposed to the people who could most benefit from them in an accessible, transparent form. This tool is my attempt to close that gap on a small scale: a single HTML page that lets a student, extension agent, or curious farmer compute ETc and a water-balance irrigation decision for any day of the year, at any Moroccan location, for thirteen common crops, with every intermediate quantity exposed for inspection. ## What it does Given a location, a day's climate data, a crop, and a soil, the tool computes: 1. **Reference evapotranspiration ET₀** via the FAO-56 Penman-Monteith equation (eq. 6 in the paper). 2. **Crop coefficient Kc** from a stage-interpolated database (FAO-56 Tables 11 & 12), based on days after planting. 3. **Crop evapotranspiration ETc = Kc · ET₀**. 4. **Soil water balance** in the root zone — total available water (TAW), readily availa …
