# Amharic Latin → Fidel Telegram Bot Converts Amharic typed in Latin letters (romanized) into Ethiopic script (ፊደል). **Example:** `selam neh` → `ሰላም ነህ` ## Setup 1. **Create a bot** — Open @BotFather on Telegram, send `/newbot`, and copy the API token. 2. **Install dependencies** ```bash npm install ``` 3. **Configure** ```bash copy .env.example .env ``` Edit `.env` and set `BOT_TOKEN` to your token. 4. **Run** (pick one) ```powershell npm.cmd start ``` Or, if PowerShell blocks `npm` with an execution-policy error: ```powershell node src/bot.js ``` Or double-click / run `start.bat` in the project folder. 5. Open your bot in Telegram and send Latin Amharic text (e.g. `misa belah`). When the bot detects a likely spelling mistake (e.g. `slam` instead of `selam`), it replies twice: your spelling transliterated, then a suggested correction. ## Tests ```bash npm test ``` ## How it works Transliteration rules follow the amseg Latin-to-Fidel mapping (SERA-style). Longer syllable patterns are applied first so combinations like `she`, `tsa`, and `gn` resolve correctly. ## Notes - Input is case-insensitive (`Selam` and `selam` behave the same). - Messages that are already only in Ethiopic script are not converted. - Spelling must match the expected romanization (e.g. `sh` for ሺ, `ts` for ፅ).
