Supervised land cover classification of Gharbia Governorate, Egypt, using GIS and remote sensing techniques to identify green areas, open spaces, and urban areas and calculate their spatial distribution. # Supervised Land Cover Classification of Gharbia Governorate ## Project Overview This project presents a supervised land cover classification of Gharbia Governorate, Egypt, using GIS and remote sensing techniques. The classification was performed to identify and map three main land cover classes: green areas, open spaces, and urban areas. The classified results were then analyzed spatially to calculate the area of each class and visualize its distribution across the governorate. ر## Data & Tools ### Data * Remote sensing imagery * Study area boundary of Gharbia Governorate * Training samples for supervised classification ### Software & Tools * ArcGIS Pro * Image Classification Tools * Spatial Analyst Tools * Remote Sensing Analysis ### Classification Classes * Green Areas * Open Spaces * Urban Areas ## Methodology 1. Prepare and preprocess the remote sensing imagery. 2. Define the study area of Gharbia Governorate. 3. Create representative training samples for the main land cover classes. 4. Apply supervised classification to the imagery. 5. Classify the study area into green areas, open spaces, and urban areas. 6. Analyze the classified raster and calculate the area of each land cover class. 7. Create the final map and visualize the spatial distribution of the classified classes. ## Classification Results The supervised classification produced three main land cover classes across Gharbia Governorate: | Land Cover Class | Area | | ---------------- | ----------------: | | Green Areas | 751,105,332.72 m² | | Open Spaces | 697,245,977.64 m² | | Urban Areas | 371,442,612.55 m² | The results show the spatial distribution of the classified land cover classes and provide quantitative information about the area occupied by each class. ## Project Map The final classification map illustrates the spatial distribution of the three main land cover classes across Gharbia Governorate.
