The African Phytochemical Database project from Student Group in Lagos # AfroPhyto AfroPhyto is an open-access database of bioactive phytochemicals from African plants. It provides a curated collection of phytochemical data from peer-reviewed literature, allowing researchers to explore, compare, and contribute new data globally. The project aims to centralize African plant phytochemical data and facilitate natural product research, drug discovery, and interoperability with global bioinformatics resources. --- ## Features - Curated data for **5,013 distinct phytochemicals** from **104 African plants** - Categorized according to **Metabolomics Standard Initiative (MSI)** biocuration standards, adapted for plant-specific context - Key phytochemical groups: flavonoids (806), phenolics (749), terpenoids (572), essential oils (304), sterols (93), and more - Web-based interface for **querying and contributing data** - Designed for **FAIR principles**: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable - **Community-driven growth:** the dataset will expand over time as researchers worldwide contribute new phytochemical data --- ## Contributing We welcome contributions from researchers worldwide! 1. Submit new phytochemical data via the AfroPhyto web interface 2. Follow the AfroPhyto Contributor Agreement for terms of submission 3. All submissions are curated for consistency and accuracy before being added to the database > Contributions expand the dataset, improve research quality, and help integrate African plant data into global efforts.
