# Southern African Healthcare Systems Analytics ## Comparative Study of South Africa, Lesotho and the Democratic Republic of the Congo A comparative healthcare-systems research project exploring how differences in healthcare governance, structure, financing, workforce and service delivery influence health data collection, reporting and decision-making across Southern Africa. ## Project Overview Healthcare data does not exist in isolation. Every patient record, laboratory result, vaccination register and disease notification is produced within a healthcare system shaped by governance, funding, workforce and service delivery. This project compares the healthcare systems of: - South Africa - Lesotho - Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) The purpose was to understand how differences in healthcare-system design affect the way health information is generated, reported and used for decision-making. The project also explores how healthcare analytics can support disease surveillance, key performance indicators, reporting quality, resource allocation and evidence-based healthcare planning. ## Project Objectives The project aimed to: - Compare healthcare systems across South Africa, Lesotho and the DRC. - Understand how healthcare structures influence data collection and reporting. - Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats within each system. - Explore practical applications of healthcare analytics in Southern Africa. - Recommend data-driven strategies that could support improved healthcare delivery. - Build foundational knowledge for future healthcare analytics projects using DHIS2, SQL, Power BI and healthcare datasets. ## Why Southern Africa? Southern Africa provides an opportunity to compare neighbouring countries that face many similar health challenges while operating under very different healthcare systems. The project examined: ### South Africa South Africa has a large and complex healthcare system divided between public and private …
