The objective of this project is to preserve and computationally model the trajectory of the Gumuz people worldview by documenting, representing, and analyzing the evolution of its conceptual system across past, present, and future contexts. # Gumuz Worldview Preservation and Simulation Project ## Overview This project aims to preserve and computationally model the worldview of the Gumuz people by documenting, representing, and **simulating** the conceptual system that shapes meaning, culture, and knowledge. Rather than focusing only on vocabulary, the project captures: - Tangible concepts (objects, places, tools) - Intangible concepts (rituals, beliefs, symbolic systems) - Relationships between concepts - Evolution of meaning across time - **Emergence of new concepts through interaction** ### Core Objective To preserve and computationally model how the Gumuz worldview evolves, adapts, and can be protected under social and environmental change. --- ## Motivation Most language preservation efforts record words but lose the structure of meaning and its dynamics. This project addresses: - Loss of cultural knowledge - Conceptual flattening in AI systems - Underrepresentation of low-resource languages - Lack of dynamic models of cultural evolution It shifts preservation from: > **Static recording → Dynamic, interactive, and measurable systems** --- ## Conceptual Framework This project operates at three interconnected levels: ### 1. Representation (What exists) Concepts are encoded as structured and interpretable units: - Objects, actions, beliefs, symbols - Indigenous vs. borrowed distinctions - Temporal status (past, present, emerging) ### 2. Interaction (How meaning is used) Concepts are validated through **use in communication**, not just storage. ### 3. Evolution (How meaning changes) Meaning evolves through: - social interaction - environmental change - exposure to new ideas and entities --- ## Agent-Based Simulation (Core Extension) To move beyond static preservation, the project introduces an **agent-based modeling framework** where LLM-powered agents simulate a living Gumuz-speaking society. ### Agents Each agent: - communicates in the Gumuz language - operates over the shared co …
