Power BI macro-financial dashboard analyzing Kenya banking sector (2006–2023) # Kenya Banking Sector (2006–2023) — Power BI Dashboard ## Executive Summary This Power BI project examines Kenya's macro-financial and banking-sector performance from 2006 to 2023. It brings together indicators covering asset quality, capital, liquidity, credit depth, monetary development, foreign-exchange reserves and external-debt coverage. The dashboard is designed as a policy and management monitoring tool rather than a comparison of individual banks. ## Problem Banking-sector indicators are often published as separate time series, making it difficult to assess financial stability, financial depth and external resilience together. The project addresses three decision questions: - Has the banking system remained adequately capitalized and liquid while managing asset-quality pressure? - Has private-sector credit and monetary depth expanded sustainably? - Are foreign-exchange reserves sufficient relative to imports and external debt? ## Approach 1. Sourced Kenya financial-sector indicators in country-year-indicator-value format. 2. Filtered the analysis period to 2006–2023. 3. Removed duplicates and irrelevant fields. 4. Standardized numeric formats and indicator definitions. 5. Pivoted indicator codes into an analysis-ready annual table. 6. Created KPI measures and time-series visuals in Power BI. 7. Organized the findings into five linked analytical pages. ## Tools - Power BI Desktop - Data model, report design, and interactive analysis - Power Query - Cleaning, filtering, reshaping, and validation - DAX - KPI measures and report calculations - CSV - Source-data format ## KPIs - Non-performing loan ratio - Capital ratio - Liquidity ratio - Private credit as a percentage of GDP - Broad money as a percentage of GDP - Foreign-exchange reserves - Reserves relative to external debt - Reserves in months of imports ## Dashboard Pages 1. Executive Overview 2. Financial Stability 3. Financial Depth 4. External Resilience 5. Policy Insights ## Insights - …
